Edgbaston

Located in the south west of Birmingham, in recent years Edgbaston district has seen significant development and is home to over 6,000 early years children.


Edgbaston district covers the wards of Bartley Green, Edgbaston, Harborne, Quinton and North Edgbaston.

Edgbaston is part of the BEYN South Cluster of districts.

Did you know…

Edgbaston is home to Edgbaston Cricket Ground, a test match venue.

The first game of lawn tennis was played in Edgbaston, in the garden of a house known as "Fairlawn".

Former British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain was born in Edgbaston in 1869.

How it works

The District Steering Group has a core membership of five people who attend every meeting, comprising: 

  • One of the BEYN Strategic Cluster Leads/Early Education Advisors 

  • One of the named District Early Years Consultants 

  • At least one representative from the PVI sector 

  • At least one representative from a Primary School 

  • At least one representative from the District Family Hub 

Each district has a dedicated Steering Group made up of representatives (maximum of 10) from across the early years sector, who meet twice a year. 

District Steering Groups are also supported by city representatives: 

  • Area SENCO Team 

  • Speech & Language Therapists 

  • Occupational Therapists 

  • BCC Early Years & Childcare team 

  • HEART Midlands EYSPH  

Up to five additional members include: 

  • Maintained Nursery Schools 

  • Special Schools 

  • Childminders / Out of School
