Erdington

Located to the north of Birmingham’s city centre, Erdington is characterised by many outer city housing estates, with an area history that is well worth a read.

Erdington district covers the wards of Castle Vale, Erdington, Graveley Hill, Kingstanding, Perry Common, Pype Hayes, and Stockland Green.

Erdington Facts

Did you know…

The famous Spaghetti Junction (opened in 1972) can be found in Erdington. It gained its name thanks to the complexity of its roads.

Until 1971, Erdington was home to the well-known rock venue Mothers, which hosted artists such as The Who, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. Local bands included The Moody Blues.

Fort Dunlop, home of Dunlop Rubber, was situated in Erdington. The building has now been redeveloped with the nearby Fort Shopping Park named after it.

How it works

Each district is run by a steering group, that meets at least three times a year. The steering groups are made up of representatives from across the Early Years community and childcare provision in the district. More information about how they are run can be found here.
