Hodge Hill district covers the wards of Bromford, Garretts Green, Hodge Hill & Solihull North, Glebe Farm & Tile Cross, Heartlands, Shard End, and Ward End.

Hodge Hill & Solihull North is part of the BEYN Central & East Cluster of districts.

Did you know…

Glebe Farm Library, made of special pre-made concrete, was the first library built in Birmingham after World War 2. It took a year to build and opened in 1952.

Hodge Hill is home to Birmingham City Football Club, established in 1875.

The Birmingham Roller is a domestic pigeon that originated in the Hodge Hill District of Birmingham, in the 1920s, through selective breeding. They can do rapid backward somersaults while flying.

How it works

Each district has a dedicated Steering Group made up of representatives (maximum of 10) from across the early years sector, who meet twice a year. 


The District Steering Group has a core membership of five people who attend every meeting, comprising: 

  • One of the BEYN Strategic Cluster Leads/Early Education Advisors 

  • One of the named District Early Years Consultants 

  • At least one representative from
    the PVI sector 

  • At least one representative from
    a Primary School 

  • At least one representative from
    the District Family Hub 


With up to five additional members, representing: 

  • Childminders

  • Maintained Nursery Schools

  • Out-of-School provision

  • Special Schools  


District Steering Groups are also supported by city-wide representatives from: 

  • Area SENCO Team

  • BCC Early Years & Childcare Service

  • Further and Higher Education

  • HEART Midlands Early Years Stronger Practice Hub

  • Occupational Therapists

  • Speech & Language Therapists
